We actually had a tie among the three teams Clashmore, Ballinameela and St. Joseph's for the second and third place as each of the teams had 38pts. each. After an extra round of questions St. Joseph's were eliminated and then it was left to Clashmore and Ballinameela to fight for second and third positions. After another round of questions Clashmore occupied second place with a score of 2 pts. while Ballinameela N.S. took third prize by scoring 1 extra point.
Fourth Class.

2nd. Ballinameela with 46 pts. Front Row
3rd. Coolnasmear N.S. with 46 pts. Back Row
As can be seen from the above score, there was a tie for second and third place as Ballinameela and Coolnasmear had 46 points each. Another round of questions followed and Ballinameela N.S. narrowly defeated Coolnasmear N.S. by the narrowest of margins which was one point.
Our next big night was Tuesday, 25th May and teams from 5th and 6th classes made their appearance and the following schools were successful.

As can be seen from the above score, there was a clear cut result for first and second place but we had a tie for third place between St. Mary's (Dungarvan) and St. Josephs N.S. (Dungarvan). The latter team was eliminated after the first round and so St. Mary's emerged victorious by defeating St Joseph's N.S. by 3 pts. to 2pts.
Sixth Class.
1st. Scoil Gharbhain with 48 pts. Back Row
2nd. Carriglea N.S. with 48 pts. Middle Row

Back row ; (Lto R) Ned Keane (Quiz Master), Christine Dwyer (Principal, Carriglea N.S.) and Mgt. Cunningham (Principal, Villierstown N.S.)
Scoil Gharbhain and Carriglea N.S. obtained a marvellous score of 48 pts. out of a total of 50 pts. This naturally caused a tie for first place and so an extra round of questions ensued. Scoil Gharbhain narrowly defeated Carriglea by 1 point and so they occupied the coveted position of first place. The latter two teams were followed close behind by St. Joseph's (Dungarvan) who occupied third place.
There was great excitement and tension as the final score was announced for the best performing school. Coolnasmear N.S. emerged as the best overall school with a magnificent score of 129 points. St. Joseph's (Dungarvan) were close on their heels as they obtained a total score of 126 points. Coolnasmear N.S. succeeded in winning the long sought after Irwin Shield.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the following who helped out on the nights concerned. Quiz Masters: Tom Scanlon and Ned Keane. Many thanks also to the Quiz Panel, collectors, photographer, Score-keepers and receptionists, all of whom comprised of parents, teachers, past pupils and friends. Everyone was very much aware of the absence of Rita Ronayne (foundress of our quiz) but her presence was felt in many other ways. We would also like to thank all the teachers who encouraged their schools to participate in the quiz as the last term is a very hectic one with all the hurling matches, girls football matches, Camogie matches and Primary Schools' Sports. Many parents were amazed at the high standard of general knowledge among their children as the final scores on each night were very high, the highest score being 48 pts. out of 50 pts. which is no mean achievement. We would like to congratulate the teachers on inculcating such a high standard of General Knowledge in their schools and supporting us over the last twenty years. Our Quiz would not be such a success without your great commitment to your schools and pupils.
We are very grateful to Villierstown Community Centre for allowing us to use the facilities and to are sponsors Irwins (Dungarvan), East Cork Oil and John Cunningham Building Services Ltd., Whose kind sponsorship made our quiz possible.
