First ever official GAA Rounders Senior Mixed Interpro

2005 will be a year to be remembered in GAA Rounders circles for many years. Not alone did they return to the sod of Croke Park but for the first time ever four Provinces were represented in the GAA Rounders Senior Mixed Interpro competition.  Connacht made their first ever appearance in an Interpro and took away the main Honours. Th only field sport within GAA circles to have a mixed aspect.

On a wild and windy afternoon teams from Ulster, Munster, Leinster and Connacht met on Sunday in St. Cronin’s Park in Roscrea, Tipperary for the first ever official Interpro.

Two Semi-finals were played and from pairings of Leinster V Connacht and Ulster V Munster, the two that met in the final were Connacht V Ulster. A well contested game by both sides with neither sides conceding runs in several innings. However, the Connacht side took their opportunity in the second innings by getting home 7 players and while the Ulster side held them off in the next three innings they never scored enough runs in their own batting innings to catch up on the Connacht side.

Players who featured well on the day were Pauline O’Hagan, Olivia Kelly, Nadine McAllister, Jude O’Hagan, Kevin O’Hagan (Ulster), J.P.Gibbons, Paul Jennings (Pitcher), Ciara Groonell, Colm Jordan, Kathryn Sullivan (Connacht), Nicky Brennan, Laura Donnelly, Kevin Goode, Louise Clarke, Paul Dooley (Leinster), Rebecca Maher, Mick England, Joseph Treacy, Amanda Moten and Brian England (Munster)
