2005 All Ireland Finals Seniors

 The Senior Womens Final

On a cold wet and windy afternoon , Limekiln (Dublin) Senior Ladies fielded in Eire Og/Corrchoill Hurling Club in Caragh, Kildare. Their opponents were Bagenalstown (Carlow).

The weather caused havoc for the very experienced players. Limekiln were missing their Bowler and great spirit was shown by the two Bowlers who featured for the Club on the day. They were Niamh Haverty and Amy Kett. The Teams were even throughout with great plays being displayed by the Donnelly Sister Jackie & Laura both playing Centre Out Field and Laura also played Back stop or a period of time. Catches also being made by Lizzy Maguire, Christine Kelly and Amy Kett. The Bagenalstown teams were also in good forma and players who shone here were Lyndsay Mc Grath, Jennie O’Brien and Nicola Clarke, Pitcher. Both teams were level on 12 each at the end of the 6th Inning

A few runs were received on walk- ons by both Teams throughout the game, however, the one that was most relevant in the game was the one that happened in the Final Innings. Limekiln started Inning No 7 and got the Bagenalstown team out without a run. Limekiln then went in to bat and with Lyndsay Healy up to bat, Limekiln got the runner, Christine Kelly home with a Walk – on. What a way to go out in an All Ireland Final. Great credit must go to both teams on their fine display of Rounders.

Limekiln (Dublin) 13, Bagenalstown (Carlow) 12

 The Senior Mens Final

The Senior Mens Final followed and the Gallant Limekiln (Dublin)Team were in to meet the reigning champions of seven years, Erne Eagles (Cavan). The teams were in great spirit as they commenced their seven innings. Limekiln were fielding a young fit team and started out will in the first two Innings with great catching and fielding by Adam Riordan and David Ryan. They made four runs but as the game progressed the experience of the Cavan men

Men began to show and they made runs in all but one inning. Great work outfield by David Reilly and some exciting catches by Gerard Clerkin, both short and long stop. Some great Pitching was displayed by both pitchers, Dominic Clerkin, Limekiln and Gary Reilly, Erne Eagles. Again the weather played havoc with the play,  Bats were wet, the Sliotar was wet And the ground became greasy. Some bases were gained by sliding in and this was Displayed by both teams. The Erne Eagles team came out victors in the end but the young Limekiln team fought to the end.

Erne Eagles 19 (with a Bat in Hand) – Limekiln 4.

Many of our players were still on a high from their excellent Exhibition Game in Pairc an Crocaigh on Saturday. May this be the first of many visits to the Hallowed soil The Kildare club who hosted the event have given this Venue for the use of Central Council a Number of times this year already. We thank them for their support and assistance.
