WATERFORD CLARE LIMERICK KERRY CORK TIPPERARY

Indoor Camogie and Hurling League 2006

The Indoor Camogie and hurling Competitions began at the end of January and the finals were held last week for the first time in the Ennistymon Community Centre. Twenty-four teams took part in the camogie and the group winners were Ballyea, Connolly, Barefield, Sixmilebridge, Kilmurry and Feakle. Ballyea and Sixmilebridge emerged to contest a cracking final, which Sixmilebridge won on a scoreline of seven goals to five.

Thirty-three teams participated in the hurling competition and the group winners were The Holy Family, Ennis National School, Inagh/Cloonanaha, Ballyea, Tulla, Feakle, Clonlara and Sixmilebridge. It was delightful to see some schools taking part for the first time and noteworthy among these were Lisdoonvarna and Fanore/Ballyvaughan. Tulla and Inagh/Cloonanaha came through round two. In a scintillating final Inagh/Cloonanaha were victorious by fourteen goals to ten.

For the first time also two perpetual cups were presented to the winners. The hurling cup was presented by Clonlara National School in memory of James Cunningham – a past pupil who died tragically last Easter. James had played a few weeks previously with Clonlara in the Indoor Hurling Competition. The Camogie cup was presented by Cumann na mBunscoil an Chláir and has yet to be named.

We would like to thank the co-ordinators, teachers and referees involved for their assistance and co-operation in running the competitions.
