    Newsletter Issue 4: Nov. 2003

 

  1. Welcome to Issue 4 of our newsletter. Some counties have reported not receiving Issue 3 so I have included another copy with this mailing. The newsletters are also available at www.scoilsport.org on the provincial link.

 

  1. Roadstone Awards: Cumann na mBunscol Laighean picked up an award on Saturday 29th in The  Berkeley Court. A trophy and a cheque for €650 was the prize for third place in Category 1 ‘Best Hurling/Camogie Initiatives’. The submission featured our days in Porlaoise, Celbridge,Carlow ,Croke Park and N.B.A. in Tallaght. Taoiseach Bertie Ahern T.D. made the presentation to the rúnaí. This money will go towards next year’s projects.

 

  1. Leinster counties featured prominently on the night with Wicklow,Offaly, Dublin and Wexford picking up nominations.

 

q     Wicklow received awards in categories 4 and 5 – ‘ Best Fixtures Booklet and Best P.R.’Well done to Jim O’ Riordan, Sinéad Ní Chrean-Loinsigh and Ciarán Byrne

q     Offaly won an Assessors’ Merit Award  (Category 5) for their fixtures booklet. Well done to Damian White and all concerned

q     Dublin won two awards (Category 1 & 3) .Congratulations to Tom Fitzpatrick and all involved

q     Wexford school St Anne’s N.S. Rathangan won an award in the category for rural school of the year. Principal Tadgh Foran and all his staff deserve great credit.

 

  1. The Annual Festival of Indoor hurling involving all 12 counties takes place in

     The National Basketball Arena Tallaght on Thursday 11th December. All counties have been notified. Last year was a tremendous success and we look forward to another feast of indoor sport. A report will be available in the next issue.

 

  1. The latest edition of ‘Lar Páirce’- Comhairle Laighean Coaching & Games Development Newsletter is a fantastic production. The 36 page magazine contains accounts of Cumann na mBunscol activities in the counties. Also photographs and details of  ‘Games Programme 2003’get covered. Be sure to get your copy. Congratulations to the editorial team.
  2.  Scoilspórt  – Cumann na mBunscol Náisiúnta’s Annual  Magazine is asking anyone who wishes to submit articles to do so before December 8th . Please forward to Jerry Grogan or to myself.

 

  1. The November meeting of Coiste Láir of Cumann na mBunscol Laighean has been deferred until early Januuary 2004. At this meeting plans will be drawn up for our ‘Games Programme 2004’. Any county with ideas/comments for this programme should contact an rúnaí as soon as possible. If you county would like to host an event next year please let us know.

 

  1. Thanks to Coiste Náisiúnta for grant of €640 received recently. The A.G.M.of Coiste Náisiúntsa will take place in Tralee on the weekend of February 28th/29th. Coiste Laighean will be sending two delegates.

 

  1. We hope to receive our annual grant from C.L.G. Laighean in the near future. This money will be distributed to counties for games promotions. Coiste Laighean is grateful to Chairman Nicky Brennan and his committee for their support over the years. Congratulations to Comhairle Laighean on the official opening of the new Áras Laighean.

 

  1. Cumann na mBunscol Áth Cliath’s Finals Day in Parnell Park featured recently on Six-One sports news. Congratulations to P.R.O. Jerry Grogan on a great coup.
