Cumann na mBunscol Laighean  Newsletter Issue 2: June 2003

1.       Welcome to Issue 2 of our newsletter. All counties welcomed the first issue. Thanks to those who commented favourably and came up with some suggestions. Thanks also to those who sent in some news items for inclusion. Perhaps next year we will include photographs.

2.       Our Games Programme is up and running with the following date

(a)   Carlow Lift & Strike on Fri. June 13th             Organizer  : Tony Crowe.

(b)   Mullingar Catch & Kick  on Tues. June 17th  Orgaizer: Gerry O’ Meara.

(c)   O’ Moore Park Camogie on Fri. June 20th   Organizer:  David Finnegan

(d)   Celbridge Ground Hurling on Tues June 24th Organizer:  Tom Ryan.

Invites have been sent to relevant counties

3.       In autumn it is hoped to continue our ‘Games Programme’ with two  more days, one in Wexford and one in Dublin. Wexford will host a Catch& Kick for counties in south Leinster and St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra will be the venue for a blitz day (hurling/ football). Details to follow in next edition.

4.       Cumann na mBunscol Cill Dara will miss Tomás Ó Neachtáin ó Scoil Uí Dhálaigh who has returned to his native Gaillimh. Tomás was rúnaí of Cill Dara and a great supporter of all our activities. Gúimíd rath Dé ar a chuid oibre sa Ghaillimh. Jim Hanafin is acting as secretary at the moment.

5.       Congratulations to Mark Mc Loughlin of Cill Dara for his work in setting up a results system for all Cumann na mBunscol games in the county. All results can be e–mailed to cumannnambunscolcilldara@eircom.net

6.       Cumann na mBunscol in Laois received huge acknowledgement recently when they scooped a ‘People of the Year Award’. This award is given to persons/ organizations for contributing to any aspect of life within the county. Laois received the award for their contribution to young people. Congratulations to Edel Parkinson and all the coiste.

7.       Jerry Grogan and Jim O’ Reilly of Coiste Náisiúnta spent a busy week in Bundoran during I.N.T.O. Congress. Their Cumann na mBunscol stand attracted many Coiste Laighean stalwarts: Tony Crowe (Carlow), Kevin Wrafter (Offaly), Jim O’ Riordan (Wicklow) and Seán Ó Baoill (Dublin).

8.       Great to see Brian Quinn back to full health after a long illness. Louthman, Brian has been involved with Cumann na mBunscol Lú for many years and also a great supporter of our activities in Leinster.

9.       MacDonald’s Catch & Kick is well underway at his stage. Official launches were held in Naas on April 28thand in Donaghmede, Dublin in early May. The regional events are taking place presently with winners going through to Páirc an Chrócaigh.

10.  Cumann na mBunscol Laighean wil meet with An Coiste Náisiúnta on Sat.13thSeptember in Club na Múinteoirí where a report of the year’s activities will be given.

General meeting for all counties takes place in St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra on Sat. 27th September.

11.  Our sympathies to Maurice Musgrave (Cathaoirleach Cill Dara) on the death of his wife Chris. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

12.   Watch out for the next edition of ‘Lár Páirce’ magazine. There are many articles on Cumann na mBunscol activities within the province. Well done to Tomás Mac GiollaPhádraig on an excellent production. Contact your G.P.O. within the county for copies
