Every School Day Counts is a joint sponsorship initiative by the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB), the agency with responsibility for ensuring that children attend school regularly or otherwise receive an education and Cumann na mbunscol, the largest school based sports body in the country.
Launched on 4th April 2007 by the Minister for Children, Mr Brian Lenihan, T.D., the purpose of the Every School Day Counts initiative is to create a positive understanding of the importance of school attendance by promoting the social and sporting benefits which are often overlooked.
The initiative involves the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) presenting Cumann na mbunscol with 2,500 NEWB branded Every School Day Counts sliothars to distribute to schools participating in this year’s hurling and camogie championships.
