Bunscoil an Dúin - 125 Celebrations

Cumann na mBunscol an Dúin met last week to draw a programme for the celebration of the 125 Anniversary of the GAA. The following programme was launched :

• Encouragement for all primary schools in county Down to participate in 125 National School Day on Friday 24th April
• Provide Fun Days at regional centres for boys and girls in the Summer term.
• Give all children the opportunity to explore all aspects of their Gaelic games and culture through by involvement in Comórtas na n?g in the Autumn term.

Schools may celebrate the National Schools' Day in any of the following ways:

• Pupils could wear their GAA colours (Club, School or County) to school
• A past or present GAA personality could be invited to schools to talk to pupils
• Teachers could use the GAA Céim ar Aghaidh/Step Ahead resource to deliver a GAA themed lesson in any subject
• Pupils could complete GAA projects and display them around the school ( These may be starting point for Comortas na nOg to be held in September )
• Use the Fun Do Coaching Resource to teach a Gaelic games lesson
• Take part in a Go Games Blitz or blitzes showcasing all of our Gaelic games

Cumann na mBunscol an Duin met recently to launch a programme of events to celebrate the 125 Anniversary of the GAA.

The Irish Times and The Sisk Group, who are both celebrating anniversaries this year, have also teamed up with the GAA and Cumann na mBunscol to hold a photography competition for schools who participate in the day. A photo showing how the school celebrates the day can be e-mailed to: photocomp@irishtimes.com. Results will be published in The Cul4kidz Magazine on May 26th.
